Reimagining Rodin through Dance
“A revelatory vision” – The Daily Telegraph
“A superb cameo exhibition” – The Guardian
When the Courtauld Gallery launched their Rodin and Dance: The Essence of Movement exhibition in October 2016, Kallaway turned to the world of dance to reach new audiences in a salient and imaginative way.
Rather than the usual suspects, we took dance critics from the Financial Times and Le Figaro on an exclusive press trip to Paris to meet with curators and conservators, to see Rodin’s work in situ and to approach the exhibition concept from a dance perspective. Bringing together the two art forms allowed us to broaden the appeal of the exhibition and introduce new visitors to the Gallery.
Ahead of the official exhibition opening, we invited a dancer from the award-winning UK company Shobana Jeyasingh Dance to translate the fragile shapes of Rodin’s sculptures into dynamic poses for a specially organized photo shoot in The Courtauld Gallery. The resulting photos made a splash across all the UK’s broadsheets.
The exhibition ran to 22 January 2017 and exceeded target visitors numbers by 12,000.
Only two weeks left to see the Courtauld's very fine Rodin and Dance show. https://t.co/g4xHaNH2z1
